Message: Entry: A Chosen People without God--The Rise of the Neocons Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/a_chosen_people_without_god_the_rise_of_the_neocons#20186 Post contents: Another neoconservative ingredient is self-acclaimed exclusive moral dominion, the same foundation for all modern-day secular (but messianic) messengers - from Marx to Freud. After all, every person assumes that he or she is right and opponents wrong. But with a few tweaks of propriety, “right” becomes righteous. Then opponents aren't merely wrong, they are evil. The self-proscribed power to assign good and evil assumes the power to assign life and death, and, with some gasoline and gunpowder, the resultant disasters play out on a grander and grander scale. No, the “neoconservative attack on realism does not bear intellectual scrutiny” any more than do any of their propositions and arguments. The neoconservatives are clever, they play to fear, and they have vast resources of wealth and communications assets supported by political – and ethnic – communion. Despite all this, polls this week indicate more than 60 percent of Americans want out of Iraq this year, so there’s a limit to how far and how long the sharpies can snooker the rubes. If they really are as smart as they’ve been telling us, thumping their chests in endless, self-aggrandizing bravura, they MUST be worried. Sent at: 2008 09 06
