Message: Entry: Good and Evil in Lviv, part I Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/good_and_evil_in_lviv#21579 Post contents: OK, let me start all over again. Two things stood out to me in this fine article (loved the photos, too). Mr. Rarey recounted his experience watching an elderly (drunk?) woman being abused as others looked on indifferently. He bought her a piece of pizza. He'll never know how many Russians he may have inspired by that simple act of kindness. It also piqued my conscience about how often I walk past homeless people in my city, feeling uncomfortable, guilty and wishing to help, but continue on my way. Maybe next time I'll buy a slice of pizza for him/her. But most edifying for me was the last part about Sister Lukia. How beautiful that so many lovely Christian statues remain in the city; but even better that there's a living, breathing example of Christian charity in real time to help the mentally disabled. A modern day Mother Teresa. How uplifting that he ended on a hopeful note, a teaser even. I look forward to the next installment. Sent at: 2008 11 23
