Message: Entry: Our Task Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/another_posting#22428 Post contents: Paul, Like several other commentators, I have been wondering what the fuss was all about? What happened in the last few days that caused the cange? I thought the cause might have been my exchange with "john" in the long comments to Taki's March 25 post criticizing neoconservatives. Now that you note that the reason was you and John Zmirak feeling some of the comments to your postings as intolerable personal insults, I'm beginning to wonder even more. After all, if you and John cannot cope with the feedback I have seen to your posts, then the problem is with you and John, not with the commentators. You two are excessively thin-skinned. To be able to exchange ideas effectively, you have to be able to listen to comments that you experience as insulting--and not only to listen, but to give careful, objective consideration to those comments. After all, truth does not always feel pleasant. As to accusing the attack on takimag coming from the Nazis, you may be falling into a trap here. A look at Taki's Mar 25 post makes it clear that the effort to block the discussion cannot have come from neo-Nazis, because the post was highly critical of Jewish neoconservatives. People hostile to Jews thus would have wanted the argument to have as wide a circulation as possible. This means the blocker had to be an "agent provocateur," who pretended to be a Nazi to hide his true background. Be careful you do not let these disturbers to gain control of what gets discussed at takimag. On the positive side, the fact that "outsiders" are beginning to make this kind of an effort against takimag shows the site has "arrived." Ideas expressed on the site must be having so much influence that people consider it worthwhile to expend major resources to silence it. Congratulations! Sent at: 2008 05 16
