The point isn't that it's not conservative, and therefore we shouldn't support it; the point is that conservatives haven't supported it because it represents a disruption of traditional society. Even some liberals, such as Lord Acton, understood this quite well. As for "the bending of language to suit a political-ideological agenda," it seems to me that you're doing precisely that.
