Until now it appeared that the visit would be passed over in silence. It appears to me that Benedict is making a very bold move to distinguish a true Enlightenment founded in natural law and represented by the American revolution, and a false Enlightenment represented by the French and leading to the debasement of Western civilization, especially in Europe. And this is a distinction that many paleos will damn as neo. There is a great need for discussion here, but, as far as I can see, no venue for it. Sent at: 2008 08 30
