It's just that we ordinary Americans do not control FOX News, CNN, or the brain of Rupert Murdoch. Are we really to blame for the Iraq War, which was decided in a climate of fear after 9-11? (I recall that Ron Paul attacked Huckabee for claiming that Americans had "supported" the Iraq War and thus had a duty to continue it.) If Americans cannot control the powers that be, how are they blameworthy? (I guess I am a Catholic Rousseauvian at the end of the day: the people can never err, though they can be led astray.)
