But it depiction of the Upper South created by the Cavalier society's immigrants is more than a little off-kilter in its limited focus. Witness its rather extreme use of the William Byrd writings as its dominant template. Byrd was hardly the expemplar of his class and its views. He certainly represented a piece of it, but he was a rare bird inhis own day. Not the best introduction to that part of the South. Sent at: 2008 10 12
