Message: Entry: The Truth About the "Good War" Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/the_truth_about_the_good_war#25917 Post contents: Obviously, the word I inadvertently omitted above was "fascism." Contrary to the hyperventilations of Sid and Adriana, there is nothing in Buchanan's book suggesting fascism was "really swell, groovy, and cool." In fact, this is how Buchanan describes the men who agreed to the Nazi-Soviet pact: "Hitler won the competition for Stalin's hand for a reason: They were brothers under the skin, amoral political animals with blood on their hands who would unhesitatingly betray nations or crush peoples to advance state or ideological interests." I trust not even Sid or Adriana would suggest Buchanan has a soft spot for Stalin. (Of course, Churchill did develop quite a crush on Uncle Joe, but I will leave the defense of Winnie to the Churchill idolaters, of whom I am not one). Sent at: 2008 07 24
