There is plenty of blame to heap on both men and women since they both have been suckered in by the greatest threat to Western civilation known to man, which is none other than nihilism. Nothing matters other than the moment and feeling good, pretty shallow all around. Women might read shallow rags like People, Cosmo, etc, but guys have Maxim, Playboy, SI, etc themselves.
