Message: Entry: Mishima--Paleocon as Samurai Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/mishima_postpaleo_of_nippon#26164 Post contents: Beautiful ending by Mr. Raimondo. I too was impressed by "Decay of the Angel" as a work of craftsmanship as well as by Mishima's lament for lost identity & lost tradition, although obviously I cannot get quite so enthused about Buddhism per se. I think the term "paleo" is perhaps getting stretched too far to be useful. However, there is a clear & valuable lesson we may take from Mishima's life -- the fundamental problem any reactionary faces in attempting to restore the old ways, when the people have abandoned those old ways en masse. I.e., any radical attempt to restore limited, constitutional and humane government in America overnight will meet the same fate as Mishima's counter-revolution -- death by apathy on the part of the indoctrinated masses (or military, in Mishima's case). One must think in terms of generations. Sent at: 2008 07 09
