It has become a commonplace that Obama's father was a Muslim. Although his father was indeed born a Muslim, as an adult he became an atheist or agnostic, completely abandoned Islamic practices, and never identified as a Muslim. It is arguable that Barack Hussein Obama, Sr.'s infidelity constituted apostasy on his part. According to his memoir "Dreams from my Father," people have often asked Obama, Jr. if he was a Muslim--his reply was always that he wasn't, but that his grandfather, was, not his father. Even if it could be argued that Obama's father was still a Muslim, it does not follow that Obama the candidate would be in jeopardy under Sharia. According to Robert Spencer, "an apostate male is not to be put to death if he has not reached puberty" (Google "Barack Obama and Islamic Apostasy").
