Message: Entry: Responding to Justin Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/responding_to_justin#26505 Post contents: The distinction between intelligence and wisdom is a valid one. As Plato and Aristotle taught, intelligence can inspire the practice of basic virtues, without the need of high-level wisdom. One of the less controversial conclusions which emanated from Herrnstein's and Murray's "The Bell Curve" was that there is a definite positive correlation between good manners and intelligence. In short, individuals who are consistently rude are likely to be ignorant as well. This decline in the virtue of civility has everything to do with the "dumbing down" of our culture. It is a sign of the times that some business schools are being compelled to offer courses on etiquette to aspiring young nabobs. Sent at: 2008 10 07
