Message: Entry: Racialism As Pseudo-'Science' Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/racialism_as_pseudo_science#26610 Post contents: We don't need to make the issue this complex. The question that needs to be posed to Raimondo is why should anyone conclude that the different races, on average, have the same mean intelligence? One doesn't need to "believe" in racial differences, because we all observe racial differences. Why do I conclude that the Cheetah can sprint faster than the turtle? Because we can observe that Cheetahs are faster than turtles. There's nothing to believe. When it comes to racial differences in intelligence we can observe -- through history, performance, IQ tests or any measure you choose -- that whites have more of it than blacks. What aspect of history, of culture, or of society is better explained if we start with the premise of racial equality? It explains nothing. Raimondo doesn't like the subject for the obvious reasons, and I can understand his main concern about wanting to drive a stake through the heart of the Empire, but we shouldn't make science hostage to politics.
