Message: Entry: Racialism As Pseudo-'Science' Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/racialism_as_pseudo_science#26633 Post contents: “It is true that model building is important in science, but its only half of science. Empirical testing to evaluate , adjust, and at times reject models is more important. Von Mises’s paradigm, I forget the name now, of deduction without testing can not tell us anything about reality.” Posted by stari_momak on May 17, 2008. stari_momak, you have misstated von Mises’ epistemological framework. Far from denying the role of experiment in physical science, he embraces it as the foundation of the scientific method. In contrast, for social sciences von Mises argues –to me, persuasively- that no experiment or historic event can possibly demonstrate the scientific truth of any hypothesis. This subtle and complex argument is elaborated in his book “Theory and History” which, thanks to Lew Rockwell, is available online at http://mises.org/th.asp Sent at: 2008 10 12
