Message: Entry: Vote GOP for "The Judges" Link: http://www.takimag.com/sniperstower/article/vote_gop_for_the_judges#27322 Post contents: As a Ron Paul supporter, I am very grudgingly leaning towards Sen. McCain in the general election. Sen. Obama's support for that atrocious farm bill may end up sealing the deal. The only issue on which Obama is clearly preferably to McCain is the war, which I opposed as ill-conceived and wasteful from the very beginning. On illegal immigration it's a wash; they are both pro-amnesty multiculturalists. On judges, McCain is a gamble, but Obama has clear, stated position that he will work to undo the only good that came out of the disastrous Bush administration. If I had to choose only between (maybe) ending the war and (maybe) tilting the balance of the SCOTUS, then I'd likely vote Libertarian in the general election (or write in Ron Paul). For me, however, the prospect of a Democratic coup in the legislature accompanied by a leftist President is frightening enough to consider pinching my nose, casting my ballot, and crossing my fingers. More entitlements, more affirmative action, more bloated government, a more hostile business environment, more empowerment for lawyers, more publicly funded madrassas, more earmarks for community organizers, environmental extortionists, and diversity consultants. Does this sound like the America you want to live in? Ending war is easier than eviscerating big government, getting bad laws off the books, and ushering a Nanny-state-nurtured, neotenic citizenry into a functional, self-sufficient society. While I'm not optimistic about a McCain presidency, it's time to stop worrying about the inevitable bleeding over the next four years; our greater focus should be on triaging the wounds.
