Message: Entry: An Imaginary Edmund Burke Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/an_imaginary_edmund_burke#27375 Post contents: I'm flattered that you choose to quote me, but I'm not sure why. I am not a liberal, a neocon or a socialist. I don't defend gay marriage because marriage should be a civil contract only, not controlled by the state (or church) and its thugs. Why should anyone need the permission of the state to have sex, children, and an on-going personal relationship with another person? Why do these state facilitated relationships get tax breaks? "Marriage" is about free association, not state coercion. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but he sure beats the alternative. I don't defend the welfare state--especially the bailouts of big bucks corporations--and that's what the welfare state is really about. Corporate protection. And, of course, social engineering, and that's where adoptionism comes in. Sent at: 2008 09 06
