From an orthodox Christian perspective, Kolbe was neither. He was, through God's grace, a saint. I.e., he was and is holy as God is holy. The word satin comes from Sanctus, Latin for holy. As Jesus said, "with God, all things are possible." Being holy, he acted as God wills without seeking salvation. As the old Baltimore Gothicism said (paraphrasing), I am sorry for my sins not because I fear hell but because they offend God. Sent at: 2008 07 09
