Guizot’s “France,” but somewhere I read that, during the French Revolutionary period, one of the wittier courtesans referred to the then recently established “civil,” or (secular) State-sponsored, marriage as the “sacrament of adultery.” That said, it does not surprise me that, two centuries later, that same civil marriage is now extended to include the “sacrament of sodomy.” Sent at: 2008 11 20
