I suppose one shouldn't be shocked that Muslims would make a natural ally to anti-smoking zealots. Muslims are often spoken as allies in the pro-life cause as well. I think one could reasonably make the claim that Muslims overtime would assimilate. There was great concern following the great Catholic migrations that people would not assimilate and that we'd have citizens with dual-loyalities. I'm not necessarily satisified with the historical argument, because Muslims generally tend to form tighter communities. It is arguable the suburban migration is what actuallly killed Catholic centric communities. I'm not sure we have like conditions today that would cause such a similar displacement among Muslims.
