Of course, that is nonsense. The historian Palmer notes that when Robespierre comes to power the state of France was war from without, civil war from withing, economic collapse, and looming danger of massive famines. This was the doing of those early, moderate revolutionaries, after being in charge for two three years of a rich and peaceful country (one can almost feel sympathy for Robespierre for being stuck with such a disaster). But of course, those moderate revolutionaries declared war on the rest of Europe to bring the blessing of democracy to them, so of course, they are worthy of respect. Sent at: 2008 10 14
