That's where the poll numbers come from, since the vast majority of the electorate pays little or no attention to day-to-day politics. Why, then, Obama? He certainly doesn't have the experience of Biden or Dodd, but the media decided to anoint him. The internet is a valuable tool for combating this media dominance - it took Ron Paul's campaign much further than would have been possible even five or ten years ago. But those of us who are intelligent and engaged enough to read and understand political blogs are still a relatively small minority compared to those who passively receive their "information" from the TV talking heads.
