But until liberalism came on the scene, it was far from obvious that to have dignity, self-worth, and a sense of place in a society that the society needed liberalism, democracy, or political power for every social class. This is the trend of our age, liberalism coupled with nationalism. Internally and with respect to outsiders, political power and participation is demanded.
