But it suffers from the absence of what Rene Girard came to realize about all human culture, regardless of how advanced and secularized it may become: we are still "religious" whether we admit it or not. Only instead of the Judeo-Christian ethos that built western civ., we are returning to the primitive Sacred that is our human default religion (L. <em>religare</em> - to bind back) of blood sacrifice.
