The key ingredient to making this mess was the Neocons. Focusing on Bush is exactly what the Neocons and their Neoliberal allies want so that they can escape responsibility and move on to advocating a war with Iran. Virtually the entire liberal establishment was in favor of the Iraq war, very much including the Mainstream Media.
