Message: Entry: Gipper Anxiety -- The Struggle Over What Would Reagan Do Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/gipper_anxiety_the_struggle_over_what_would_reagan_do#31213 Post contents: The article is excellent. Rather than Reagan's rhetoric, which mirrored that of most 20th-century presidents in its standard hosannas to democracy, it's his actions that we should be looking at. Military action--in Libya and Grenada--was justified not by abstraction but by America's just national interests. Furthermore, Reagan acknowledged and learned from his mistake of inserting Marines in Lebanon. After five+ years in Iraq, Bush, in contrast, continues to travel down the same wrong path. Unlike Reagan, he is not pragmatic enough to cut losses. Sent at: 2008 12 02
