And as the heirs of a group which not so long ago really was oppressed by our government, their well-being is also in some sense our responsibility. Unlike illegal aliens, we actually owe them something. The least of our problems? Crime, welfare, and the adulteration of our culture by a people who refuse to assimilate is the least of our problems? No, I dare say this is the root of our problems, the model that we should anticipate all other inassimilable people will follow. Owe them something? Are you kidding me? The reason I visit this website is to avoid having to deal with absurd guilt politics like this. We owe them nothing. Absolutely nothing. Consider the predicament of blacks in every other nation of this world and you will find that they have a better life available to them here than they do anywhere else. Yes, we treated them as unequals, but until the 20th century, there was very little empirical evidence indicating that they were in any way deserving of equal status. Equality is not a quality to be determined by ethics, it is an issue to be determined by meritocracy. But I agree with your assessment that appealing to argument of race is a losing battle. Instead, we must use arguments of culture before this too becomes off limits. Sent at: 2008 12 02
