Message: Entry: A Slogan We Can Believe In Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/a_slogan_we_can_believe_in#31455 Post contents: This electorate, by all accounts wouldn't know "normalcy" (an unsatisfying term at best) if it was right in front of them. It would appear that The Media-Political/ Military Industrial Complex Tin Man has effectively brain-sodomized any kind of sense of normalcy out of the electorate. Joinerism is the new liberty. "Do as I say, not as I do" is the new e pluribus unum. However, despite it's stunned inability to effect a course correction, the public is far smarter than the media would like them to be. In spite of the relentless cascade of cant and sensationalism rammed down our collective throat....a large segment of the public clearly knows its been pooched handily and is aware of the challenges ahead and even has a vague idea of what might need to be done. At this juncture, they can't change this understanding from one of an insurmountable problem to one of epic opportunity. Unfortunately, too many still think they can do it via government. It thought it might have Obama to focus it's attention upon but the last several days promptly disabused them of that romantic notion. Unfortunately, that little crypto-royalist enclave on the Potomac has decided that self-love is best maintained by self-deception and so we are confronted with the very real possibility that the leadership will crash the lapsed Republic whilst following their map of big ideas on a Jackass named "Change" and waving the banner of Fear. Normalcy ehhhh? How prosaic. We are in the middle of a George W. Bush salute to Normalcy, a kind of hee-haw swooning over the Golden Calf of the Reg'lar Guy . "Normalcy" is the Bait and Switch of the era. After all, the American Revolutionary Principles are the new "abnormal". We're well beyond the edifying effects of "normalcy". What we need now aint normal. What we really need is something abnormal and the public, as Mencken so ably put it, "is about to get it good and hard". Sent at: 2008 11 20
