Message: Entry: The Myth of the Conservative Legal Movement Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/the_myth_of_the_conservative_legal_movement#32525 Post contents: With the passage of the FISA bill, reliably swooning in the face of the Unitary Executive, the curiously named "Conservative Legal Movement" is granted the authoritarian latitude it has long sought. This is not at all about "original intent" because original intent is now nothing more than a charming and "antiquated" conceit. Needless to say, there will be nothing conservative about the expenditures related to an all-knowing, all seeing eavesdropping program. The next Witch Trials will be far better and come with high production values underwritten by the military contractor of your choice. When "conservatives" champion any weakening of the fundamental right against unlawful search and seizure, we can be sure that "conservative" is nothing more than a brisk round of "pin the tail on the Donkey". I do not know which is worse, a relativist liberal hegemony of celebrating the lowest common denominator of indiscriminate sentimental abandon ......or an authoritarian neo-conservative hegemony that has resulted in something so utterly ridiculous and disastrous as the presidency of George W. Bush and his Corporate Cohort. This extended Kabuki of Liberal and Conservative Cred brought to us over the last 16 years has been nothing more than a centrist mash-up of Elaborate Grab Ass signifying the ascendency of the most juvenile adult generation in the history of mankind. "Conservative Legal Movement".....ehhh, what a lark. Almost as funny now as "liberal arts". Sent at: 2008 12 01
