I too wish it would go away. I am sure that it sounds beautiful to somebody, but I have always felt it was put together by someone who wanted to show off. "Look what I can do." Incidentally, our organist is married to one of the bass singers, which means that marital squabbles sometimes express themselves in odd ways.
