It is the "Southern White", uninfluenced by Yankee Puritanicalism that votes for such people as GW Bush. Not because of their non-progressive Baptist creed, but in spite of it. What is the cause of it all then? Well, THERE is where the Yankee influence is to blame - due to their overwhelmingly being informed by secularism. Not that the Southern Whites are "secular", but their opinions of the world are formed by secular society, other than the parts where Our Lord Jesus tells us to, and a paraphrase here, "go out and make disciples of all nations". Just like with the "commerce clause" and the "general welfare clause" of the US Constitution (a document that should have been written in Latin, by the way), they find a loop hole that allows them to abuse the system.
