The gas to the fire analogy is exactly what they are hoping for. It will be impossible to maintain a lucrative war on terror without well armed terrorists. Probably also explains missing weapons in Iraq. The mechanism is pretty simple once you figure out the pattern. Introduce more arms to the region so that everyone has weapons and then can be described as a threat. Next you add some American Military to he mix and now you have live targets. It is simply in poor taste to kill Arabs without a few Americans coming home in body bags. When inevitably violence breaks out we have a lovely little war which will require more military, advisors, Burger King, Starbucks, etc. We will soon have green zones all over the middle east. Mr. Cordesman logically figures why leave all the fun and profits to the Russians? It all spells opportunity. It's win win for all!!! The corporations get more customers, after all, is there anyplace left in America or Europe without American fast food? The private military business is probably the single fastest growing part of our economy next to health care, and heck, health care won't do too bad either when all the casualties start piling in. If you play the market you can't do any better than weapons and hospitals. The investment strategy of our time should be follow the think tanks. Of course all posters to this site have dutifully pointed out the immorality of profiting on the death and misery of others. Probably unknown to many, but by giving 30 billion to Israel we are all supporting abortions for state funded fetal stem cell research in our apartheid state allies. I doubt many evangelicals know about that one. Sent at: 2008 08 29
