Message: Entry: Firing Foxman Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/firing_foxman#3626 Post contents: To Bill Q., Catholics don't start their own churches (except for guys like Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, etc., in a spirit of rebellion and heresy.), because, as Adriana said, to do so would make themselves Protestant -- historically speaking -- that is what Protestantism is all about. If you don't know it, pal, Catholics believe that they belong to the one true Church instituted by Christ Himself, the God-Man. This belief is supported by Revelation, history, and philosophy. To Adriana who said, "Catholics are not free to build their own churches, but have to get their bishop’s approval, and if the bishop says no, they can 1) obey him and send a protest furhter up at most, 2) stop coming to Church (lose their faith) or 3) convert to other religion." This is nothing but blather. There is no option, here, because it would be a contradiction. Of course, your point is a demonstration of pure ignorance of what it means to be Catholic and Catholicism. Catholic bishops have never given permission to disgruntled Catholics to form their own church based on some point of dissatisfaction. You might have, for the sake of our edification, cited historical examples whereby various "protestant" churches were given permission to form their own churches by Catholic bishops.
