If you read my above comment carefully, you'll see that I agree with George Kennan that the West ought to just "keep the peace" and leave China alone, for the most part. The idea that nuking Chairman Mao's China might have been a good idea, is not "typically American" at all. 2. I said only a "part of me" thinks it might have been a good idea, because 3.
