My own take: SOME Europeans are not waking up, but instead are fleeing from one nightmare -- the Islamic Horde -- to another: the extremist nationalism of the national front movements and, to use an imprecise term, "fascism". The REST of Europeans rightly have repugnance for the latter, and thus may be blinded by that repugnance to the dangers both of Islam and Cultural Marxism. The enemy of my enemy is rarely my friend, and makes a treacherous ally. Gottfried is correct to observe other elements in his protest march than, to use an even more imprecise if not distorting word, the "right". If he is belittling these elements, he would be wrong to do so. The path toward European recovery is NOT general goose-stepping, torchlight parades, loyality oaths, the Badenweiler Marsch, marches on Rome, Futurist painting, "the spirit of the squadristi", night rallies, street fighting, Blut und Boden, and pogroms. These methods have been tried before, and have -- to say the least -- a bad track record. The correct road toward European cultural recovery is threefold: 1. Realize that Islam is the wrath of God upon a decadent civilization. Muslims don't kill their kids and celebrate sodomy. Stop the decadence, and Islam will have nothing to feed on. 2. Embrace the very Judeo-Christian humanist tradition which Gottfried perhaps thinks little of, and embrace its philosophical accompaniment, the Personalist tradition, a tradition that provides a very fine foundation to human rights, and certainly a better one than Hobbes and Locke. With classic Protestantism dead, Europeans are well advised to embrace the thought of Wojtyła and Ratzinger, and the politics of Christian Democracy: a modern and improved version of Windthorst, Adenauer, De Gasperi, and Schuman. Kirt's correct: Want to beat another religion? Promote a better one. 3. Relearn how humans have children and raise families. By the way, have Paul Belien and Alexandria embraced Alain de Benoist and the Nouvelle Droite's neopaganism, along with Armin Mohler and Julius Evola? Are the mosques of the Muslims and the Celtic Full Moon Rites of the Greens to be replaced with, instead of Kirt's new churches, temples to Wotan and Freia? Sent at: 2008 05 16
