The landlord is a private citizen who rightfully owns the land he rents out. The contract between me and my landlord is not forced upon me. Either the landlord or I can end the private contract at any time, with prior agreed-upon financial penalties on either side. The queen provides little to no service, collecting taxes from people who owe her nothing, based on law enforced at the point of a gun. She does not own the land on which these people live. She governs over it by birthright only, and the law is forced on the British people, whether they are willing or not. The differences between a landlord who purchased (or inherited) his property from someone else, and a monarch who collects taxes from unwilling subjects, are staggering.
