Message: Entry: Sept. 11, 2001: Adrift Among the Dead Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/sept_11_2001_adrift_among_the_dead#4822 Post contents: I was careful to speak of the War between the States, not any Civil War. I was born in Quaker Philadelphia and grew up in Dutch Reformed New Jersey before its complete suburbification; I was educated in Quaker Richmond, Indiana. My mother was of old Puritan stock on her father's side. For better or worse the Jansenist religiousity of my father's father's people blended well with the Puritan heritage. I would judge that a great many relative newcomers have fit in well enough that the Founders would recognize them as their posterity. Others perhaps less so. But we must also recognize that the Evangelicalism of some of the older European population has morphed into something that can only be described as un-American, and this did not start with T. Woodrow Wilson: Mr. Lincoln's name has already been mentioned above. Sent at: 2008 09 06
