While true democracies in the Middle East would not be beneficial to Israel, there is little evidence that this was the goal. There is however reason to believe that the goal was to stir ethnic conflicts, forcing the disingration of an existing state, into enclaves much less powerful politically and militarily than they otherwise would have been. This is one of the problems with equating the neo-cons with Jacobins. While the analogy is not altogether inaccurate, it wrongly assumes that neo-con planners and policy makers were primarily motivated by an utopian idea of democratic revolution. While there were and are some that fall under that category, there are many others motivated by fanatical devotion to Israel and equally fanatical hatred of Arabs. Sent at: 2008 09 06
