Unfortunately people cannot get out of the trouble they are in until they convince themselves they are in trouble. As long as they are in denial, they will go on as before, believing Bush, believing Fox News, believing Petraeus. As Dr. Johnson said, the certainty of being hanged in the morning concentrates a man's mind most wonderfully.
