Lukacs has made the point that Hitler didn't hesitate to make war on Anglo-Germanic-Nordic peoples, e.g., Holland, Norway, Great Britain. Lukacs notes that Hitler praised the Japanese, Chinese and Arabs, thinking more highly of these races than of Germanic/Nordic ones (mostly because he thought them more ruthless and brutal in pursuit of their collective interests). If one were to compare the views of Winston Churchill on race or related issues (Indian independence) versus the actual views of Hitler, the later would appear to be a liberal and the former the "racist" under current conceptions. So, Lukacs makes the point that it wasn't "racialism" that typified Nazism, but rather radical nationalism. Lukacs is of course wrong in viewing the actual Nazis as nationalists, but he is correct in countering the myth of Nazi racism. Sent at: 2008 09 06
