I agree with his viewpoint, exactly. Such matters simply are not discussed in public in Iran, for example, even during the time of the reign of the Shah. As they say in Persian, "one's dirty laundry is not put out for all to see". Correlating 19th century observations of the Near East, Central and South Asia with modern day attitudes of human sexuality in something as vast as the "Islamic World" is not going to yield a very accurate conclusion.
