Professor James Ward Smith published "A Theme for Reason" about Charles Sanders Peirce's work, in the 1950's, rescuing Peirce from oblivion. Smith was a brilliant teacher at Princeton and one of the great heroes of WWII. I took courses with him and was always astounded by his genius and delighted by his charm. He detested John Dewey and didn't care much for William James. He thought both of them had distorted Peirce. Peirce, the inventor of Pragmaticsm. gave up on that word because of James and called his system of thought Pragmaticism. Sent at: 2008 09 07
