Message: Entry: Sex, Politics, and Gnosticism Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/sex_politics_and_gnosticism#6062 Post contents: What really caught my eye here was the bit about "e-prime", evidently one of myriad academic phenomena which have entirely escaped my awareness even though I have two postgrad degrees etc. In some fellow alumnus' library there rests - hopefully in peace - my freshman philosophy textbook which I sold to the used bookstore, in which I drew a speech balloon outside Descartes' mouth saying, "I am full of shit." What I DO want someone to explain, is the origin and purpose of the pandemic overuse of "present continuing" verbs, even in places like the British Museum where a Viking helmet labelled ten years ago as "Viking helmet: the guy who wore this was a pirate and rapist", has been changed to something like, "Vikings are exploring the world!" Does anyone know how and why this plague began? I know it's an academic leftist phenomenon, but please enlighten me more? Sent at: 2008 10 15
