Message: Entry: War Whore Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/war_whore#663 Post contents: Suppose by some miracle- enough people on main street would hear the isolationist message-- we are working against "the" myth of the modern age in the USA. Schools, history channel, media, ... all label such views as immoral or dangerous, and we get WWII, the giant of all triumphalist myths, shook in our face. But by some miracle, suppose the population in general was to actually be exposed to and think about the issues. Who will they vote for anyway? Suppose a real revulsion toward foreign policy misadventures gripped the land, and the parties were forced (somehow- who would make them do so- but anyway we are supposing) to field a real candidate that would narrowly cast our national interest overseas. Then the medaling ba****ds would engineer another pearl harbor, and get, with lies and deception, what they could not get by arguments, and by winning an election if it came to that. After WWI the country really was fed up with foreign policy crap in Europe. Didn't matter. Roosevent moves the fleet to Hawaii, and engineers a way to get the US into the war. After Pearl Harbor, the anti war forces were totally beaten and they knew it. I am not optimistic that a multi ethnic and vastly powerful country like the US can ever find a way not be ridden hard and put away wet by somebody with enought cash to explain to the media and JOE on main street what his duty is to "world democarcy" or some such mindless abstraction, for which we will gladly send our sons to die. and Dave: I am not hoping thwart your will by bullying and buying the political and media machinery. I am only wondering how the US could reposition the role of the media and political parties so that alternate foreign policy postures could be even considered after a fair hearing of all sides. After that, if the country still wants to go to war, I would disagree, but I would not feel like the decision was the product of a clique with money purchasing the chess pieces needed to guarantee the result they want. This is a PR-ocracy. Advertising and propaganda work when there is no alternative fairly presented in a wide venue. Sent at: 2008 07 09
