Those injustices and prejudices were not "enshrined" in the Christian religion - they were enshrined in the surrounding culture for <i>millenia</i>. The Christian religion took many millenia to seep in and retain what was good of the former culture and remove what was not good (and as new good and bad arrive, it continues to do the same, sometimes with success, sometimes not).
