I recall partaking in those CU debates: recognizing the shape of things to come…I find your perspective quite on the mark...I take major exception to Mr. Ball's contribution: I do believe the Good Samaritan parable has been wrought from its truly meaningful context, which reduces its message to largely sentimental nonsense-to the ideology of values you speak of Scott- and, disagree totally with Mr. Ball’s assertion that Pope John Paul II (“the Great” – a little much don’t you think!) and Mikhail Gorbachev were the main reasons for the fall of communism – communism was the main reason for the fall of communism as John Lukacs so eloquently points out…but if the popular imagination needs heroes than so be it – it’s simply an overstatement!
