And I don't disagree with the commentary in your second paragraph. In fact, that's why I focused on American Catholic support for U.S. policies that have harmed Christians. I'm not suggesting that the U.S. government should change those policies to ones to "'protect' the Christians of the Middle East." Instead, American Catholics should quit supporting those policies, with an eye to convincing the U.S. government to end them. Period. Then, as you note, American Catholics might be able to support their Middle Eastern brethren themselves--if they first wake up and realize that they have brethren in the Middle East.
