Most Catholics in New Orleans are not Cajuns. The city was settled by French directly from the old country, including more than a few escaping the Le Terror. Cajuns, after being burned out of Nova Scootia by the British, were consigned too the deep cypress swamps 90 miles west of the Crescent City. Of course, with the coming of the oil bidness and social mobility , some descendants of the original Les Acadiens became urban dwellers.
