Not only (as Adrianna suggests) is the spectacle our just desserts for being so collectively & lackadaisically "tolerant" of what we all ought to find intolerable; it's also (I believe) a hint of hell. This is because (as Lewis suggests in The Great Divorce) our eternal ontological state is informed by our reaction to such disordered passion, both in ourselves & others. Purgatory is simply the release from that passion, for those of us embroiled who seek to escape through appeal to Mercy in repentance. So, as I say, such "processions" have, in the end, everything to do with Purgatory. Oh, and one other thing: John Ball, that is really funny. Sent at: 2008 10 07
