Just change the words "Muslim" to "Irish" and "Islam" to "Catholic", and could the same article could have been published by the Know Nothings in the 1840s? There's a Puritan haunting these pages who might say "yes." Ditto the debate on the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882? The Chinese weren't Christians or Westerners either Ditto Wilson's treatment of German-Americans in 1917-18, most of whom along with Irish-Americans supported the Kaiser, some of whom may have been named "Richert"?
