I've never been able to understand Belloc's statement about Europe and the faith, especially since it was made around the time that Europe had almost completed its abandonment of the faith, a process already well underway for centuries. At this moment, in the era of post-Christian Europe, the statement simply rings of European conceit and a will to ignore the growth of Christianity in many parts of the world other than Europe. I hope and pray for the re-conversion of Europe. This may well be accomplished by African and Chinese missionaries sent to the dark northern continent by an African or South American pope.
